$10,000 will be awarded to three programs that use sport to address the root causes that influence heath and health equality. RWJF will consider applications in three categories: 1) a professional sports team community relations department or foundation; 2) an individual athlete or professional coach’s foundation; and 3) an organization that is an influential leader and model for improving community health through sports.

The focus on health and health equality may include removing obstacles to health such as poverty, discrimination, and their consequences, including powerlessness and lack of access to good jobs with fair pay, quality education and housing, safe environments, and health care; fostering a sense of security, belonging, and trust; engaging in collective problem solving, including full participation by excluded or marginalized groups and those most affected by poor health in making decisions and driving solutions; and/or valuing diverse perspectives.

Applicants must be based in the United States or Canada. Applicants that are not charitable organizations or public entities must apply through a fiscal sponsor. Chapters within a larger organization are not eligible to apply.
